3-5:00 p.m.
BIRMINGHAM BLOOMFIELD ART CENTER
COMMEMORATES FIRST YEAR OF FLOURISHING OUTREACH PROGRAM;
ART CREATED BY STUDENTS OF THE ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART
TO BE PRESENTED TO CHILDREN’S ORGANIZATIONS
The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and its featured Studio 1 Partner, the Academy of the Sacred Heart, present a Garden Party (free and open to the public).
The Garden Party will be held in Studio 1 at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and celebrates a full year of Studio 1 programming, which provides high-quality art experiences to those in our region who may not otherwise have such experiences to enrich their lives.
The Garden Party also celebrates Studio 1’s collaboration with the Academy of the Sacred Heart to organize a community service project for Sacred Heart students. Boys from the Academy’s Kensington Hall (grades 5-8) worked with children from Orchards Children’s Services to create six pieces that will hang in Orchards’ Family Preservation rooms. Upper School girls worked with youth at Children’s Village to create three pieces of art that will hang at the Shelter Care facility on the Pontiac campus of Children’s Village. Each of the multi-media compositions is three-dimensional and offers upbeat imagery, such as seascapes, animal life and dinosaurs. These pieces will be on display at the Studio 1 Garden Party and will be presented to the leaders of Children’s Village and Orchards Children’s Services at the event.
The Garden Party will also offer opportunities for Studio 1 participants to exhibit and sell their work to raise friends and funds for the Studio 1 program. The garden-theme items include copper flowers on stakes; sand sculptures; garden flags; garden gloves; bird baths; ceramic garden angels; flower pots; and more, all made specifically for this event. The garden art will also be for sale on Fri., May 21, 6-8 PM and on Sun., May 23, 1-4 PM.
There will be a Garden Party Labyrinth on the Studio 1 patio, using luminaries created by Leadership Oakland fellows.
Studio 1 is generously supported by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the DeRoy Testamentary Foundation and Home Instead. Garden Party sponsors include Jeffrey and Trisha Stander. Studio 1 is located within the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center at 1516 S. Cranbrook Road (Evergreen Road) in Birmingham, Michigan, between 14 and 15 Mile Roads.
