In 2008, "art for all" was taken to a new level with the launch of Studio 1, providing high quality, hands-on visual art experiences to children, seniors, and people with disabilities in Southeast Michigan.

Funded by generous seed grants from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the DeRoy Testamentary Foundation, and the TriMas Foundation, the BBAC piloted a program to serve those in our region who might not otherwise have access to art experiences that can enrich lives.

We reconfigured a physical space -- Studio 1 -- to address the needs of individuals with disabilites, seniors with physical limitations, and children working through stressful situations in their lives.  We engaged a diverse and dedicated group of artists and educators to develop programs specifically for each human service group we work with.

Since the program's launch, Studio 1 has served thousands -- one person at a time, one art project at a time.

Together with partner organizations, talented artists, and enthusiastic participants, Studio 1 opens doors, builds confidence, and unlocks new possibilities every day for those living in our region.
